Social bookmarking explained

Ever wanted to share your favourites with the whole world? Ever seen something on AOL that you just want to shout from the rooftops about? Well, now you can.

By simply clicking any of the links in the widget (see picture) at the bottom of any AOL article page, you can share it with anyone who might be interested. We've made it easy for you to post the page as a favourite on a social bookmarking website (del.icio.us, Digg, Reddit, Newsvine, Now Public).

You can write your own tags to describe the article and then other users will be able to find it when they search for that tag. (Note: You will need to register with the site in order to post.)

What is social bookmarking?

Social bookmarking sites (such as del.icio.us) are a popular way to share and search for web pages and other content on the internet by looking for keywords or 'tags'.

Other users can search for tags via the site and find content that you've labelled with that tag. (This way of describing your favourite pages is also known as folksonomy.)

For example, if you post an article from AOL Entertainment about Big Brother, you might tag it 'Big Brother', 'reality TV', 'Channel 4' and 'eviction' and other users searching for any of those terms will be able to find the article.
